About Us

Archangel Michael Monastery is Australia’s first Coptic Orthodox monastery for nuns.

It was established in 2015 and inaugurated on 9 September 2017 by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II during his historic pastoral visit to Australia, accompanied by several Coptic Orthodox bishops.

On 2 June 2023, the Holy Synod officially recognised the monastery as a canonical Coptic Orthodox monastery. It remains the only canonically recognised Coptic Orthodox monastery for nuns in the Southern Hemisphere.

The monastery is shepherded under the direct pastoral care of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, who serves as its head and abbot.

Located approximately one hour from Melbourne, Archangel Michael Monastery is nestled in Woodend, within the picturesque Macedon Ranges of Victoria.

Please remember Archangel Michael Monastery in your prayers.
