About Us

By the grace of God, Archangel Michael Monastery is Australia’s first Coptic Orthodox monastery for nuns.
It was founded on 8 January 2015, and inaugurated on 9 September 2017 by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II during his historic pastoral visit to Australia, accompanied by several Coptic Orthodox bishops.
On 2 June 2023, the Holy Synod formally recognised Archangel Michael Monastery as an official monastery for nuns in the Coptic Orthodox Church.
It remains the only canonically recognised Coptic monastery for nuns in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.
Archangel Michael Monastery is shepherded under the direct pastoral care of our beloved father His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, who serves as its head and abbot.
The monastery's first nun was consecrated on 21 October 2023 by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II.
Please remember us in your prayers.
